On February 3, starting at 7:30 pm in the Edison Hall of the Dukla Cinema, the CDF will host Janek Rubeš, the author of a series of reportages on the practices among Prague’s taxi drivers,. This event comes as the first of a three-part series organised by the CDF under the title Reality Show. The episode Prague vs. Money has become hugely popular thanks to the online TV stream.cz and Rubeš has thus managed to draw attention to this burning social issue, which will hopefully soon be competently resolved.Continue

A two-day workshop with outstanding Czech documentary filmmakers (Vít Janeček, Drahomíra Vihanová, Vít Klusák, etc.) in which they will explore the borderline between fiction and documentary film. In addition to a series of lectures, the participants will be offered a wide range of benefits.

For the upcoming school season, The Center for Documentary Film prepared many new courses. One of the highlights is a set of two workshops for elementary school pupils. It focuses on film animation techniques and the history of the development of animated inventions. We offer a single workshop suitable also for first grade children, or a series of three lessons, that delves deeper into the art of animation filmmaking.Continue

CDF made an appearance at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, showcasing the outcomes of our work. As part of the annual Docu Talents from the East (Jihlava IDFF), we boasted of CDF’s research achievements. We dedicated the whole of June to diligent work on our research, and we believe that we have produced a very interesting output.
Monday, July 6, is a Czech national holiday and CDF will be closed. You can visit us on the following working day, Tuesday, July 7.
At the end of June, the CDF launched its newsletter. The first issue was distributed to all of our followers and supporters featuring, among other information, many interesting facts and overviews of CDF’s activities that took place in the first half of 2015 – mainly related to lectures, box office figures, guests and CDF’s overall contribution to the sphere of documentary film theory. It also brings information about films screened during the courses and details regarding the past courses and the lecturers.
Director of Jihlava IDFF Marek Hovorka has introduced this year's visual and theme concept by unveiling the festival poster of the 19th edition of Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival. The carousel of educational lectures and screenings is in full swing, in that we have our guests that will be attending as the lecturers.
This time on Wednesday (April 8th) it will be the documentary filmmaker and sociologist Martin Kohout (1984). With this, the cycle named Contemporary Czech Documentary Film will begin. As the name suggests it will be dedicated to the analysis and development of Czech documentary film, its typical elements and the exceptions.
On Wednesday, March 18th, the director and documentarian Jan Látal will be coming to Jihlava to introduce the one-time lecture, From the Treatment to the Premiere, or the Basics of the creative process behind creating an audiovisual piece of work.Continue

We are putting together a program for educational lectures and screenings to be held in March and April, we are filling the library with new publications and fine-tuning the linked online search of books as well as films.Continue
As part of the international conference, Film Education for the 21st century (Filmová výchova pro 21. Století), which was held January 14th-18th, at the Prague cinema Ponrepo, two of our representatives will introduce the concept, activities and goals of the CDF. The event is hosted by the NFA and the company Free Cinema. The program of open film education will offer a wide range of activities concentrating on the current state and an overview on the issue of film and audiovisual education for both professionals, as well as the general public. The CDF would like to wish you a happy and healthy year 2015, spent in the company of documentary film. Even in the New Year, you have a lot to look forward to. Once again we are preparing educational screenings and lectures, open to students, mainly students of high schools, but also the general public. The last lecture from the educational cycle, Documentary Film- Window to the World?, will be dealing with the spirit of contemporary documentary film and as an example of such a film, director Martin Dušek will come personally to present his latest piece Into the Clouds We Gaze (K oblakům vzhlížíme), which won in this year’s IDFF Ji.hlava Czech Joy section. A lively discussion with the creator will follow the screening, so do not hesitate to come and take part in it. The time leading up to Christmas is ideal for some documentary enrichment

On Tuesday, December 9th, the Czech documentary filmmaker and provocateur Apolena Rychlíková will come to Jihlava with her film Family (Rodina). She will also be giving a lecture on the topic "Creative Documentary Film". We begin at 10:00 and due to the change in time schedule, the last third lecture of the day will begin at 13:45!

This upcoming Tuesday, December 2nd the leading Czech columnist, editor and director David Macháček will come to Jihlava. He formerly cooperated with the Agricultural Newspaper (Hospodářské noviny), Mladá fronta Dnes, and with the weekly Respekt. Currently you have the opportunity of seeing him in the program Reporters of Czech Television (Reportéři ČT). The award-winning investigative reporter will come to Jihlava to lecture about the rules of reporting news and we will be happy to see you in attendance. Examples of the author’s reports will be screened as part of the lecture. We begin at 10:00 and the last lecture will end at around 16:30.Continue
During December, the CDF will welcome lectors and lecturers as part of educational courses, not only targeted at high school students, but also seniors and the general public for the first time.
